Dreams of me being in San Diego County

I had two dreams that I was somewhere in the San Diego Area both night and day. The night dream of me in San Diego consisted of traveling Westbound on I-8. In that journey, I was traveling to see some lady about dieting advice. It turns out that I had already bought a diet plan and I couldn't get out of paying for it. After I bought the diet plan, I went South on a street, made a u-turn, and made a trip westbound again on I-8 before making a transition onto I-805 in Mission Valley. Over the weekend, I had a dream where I was traveling up I-5 Northbound in San Diego County. I approached an inspection station on the freeway, and I saw a Mexican restaurant in the median in addition to the usual inspectors on the road. During my 'inspection', I was greeted by CNN Medical Correspondent Elizabeth Cohen and Former CNN Anchor T.J. Holmes. I don't remember what we all talked about, but I think they were friendly to me. In reality: I haven't been to San Diego in almost five years and I don't expect to travel there again anytime soon.

Dreaming of being a producer

Last week, I had a dream. I had an awesome dream. I didn't mean to quote Billy Ocean, but I did. I had a dream where I was basically told that I can become a producer. I had producers and reporters talk to me in my dreams that I can accomplish this great goal that I have in real life. In reality, I have started taking steps to this goal. It's almost like an epiphany if you will. I know that I have to do more than just be a video editor for the rest of my career. The steps that I have taken so far are practicing my writing, studying the day's news rundown to see how a show gets put together, and submitting sample scripts to the producers and writers to get their feedback on my efforts. I will sum up my writing efforts as follows, two "good jobs", two suggested improvements, and one 'watch what you say and how you say it.' Part of my problem is self-motivation. I have to overcome that in order to get to the next level of my career. I have to get out of my editing comfort zone and try new things. My boss even told me that he wants more than just VO/SOT cutters before he ultimately hired me. I'm going to do everything I can not to let him down and I will make him proud of me. Starting again on Sunday, I will practice my script writing and I will get some feedback on my work. Let the fun begin.

Dreaming of driving up I-85 in Atlanta

I had a dream last night where I was driving up Interstate 85 here in Atlanta. In that dream, I was driving Northbound up the freeway during the daylight hours. Up the road, I was approaching the junction to Georgia 400. In the dream, there were exits for both the Northbound and Southbound lanes to get on to Georgia 400. The freeway signs up ahead were clearly marked for one lane to go North and for one lane to go South. Once I got to those signs approaching Georgia 400, I stopped driving. It was as if time stood still and I stood still. I was in awe of how beautiful the signs were inviting people to get on Georgia 400. In reality: I woke up and there is still only a Northbound transition to Georgia 400 while going NORTH on I-85 near Buckhead. Soon that will change. The Southbound I-85 transition to Georgia 400 Northbound will be constructed and opened by the end of the year. The Georgia 400 Southbound Flyover ramp to I-85 North will open by the end of the year as well.

I had a dream about working at Channel 2

Last Week I had a dream where I worked at a competing television station in Atlanta. Some of the dream felt familiar to me. It combined the staffs of the Weather Channel and CBS Atlanta News. Some of the people from both channels were people that I have worked with and people I currently work with. We were all working as original content video producers for the day. That was where we found the best video to put on the air for Channel 2 Action News throughout the afternoon. Some of the work space was at someone's house, and some of the space was inside a large break room complete with MACs and Final Cut Pro. In reality, I woke up still working for CBS Atlanta News as a non-linear editor. I have been with WGCL-TV/CBS Atlanta News since July 2012, and I have been full-time since Last August. I like what I'm doing now, and I'm ready to more for the station that has given me the opportunity to work and make a living once again. Thank you CBS Atlanta News!!!!

Dreaming of ASU again

This morning, I had a dream where I was back at ASU again. I wa on my way to the Memorial Union while picking up a free copy of the "State Press" and getting some of the best college food to eat. Later on in the dream, I was on my way to the Student Recreation Center in the middle of the night to go and work out. I was all set to go, then some unknown person in the dream interrupted me and took me away from the destination I was intending to go to. In reality, I was back in bed and ready to wake up after Gandalf woke me up. I haven't been an active student since 1998. I was back on the ASU campus with my wife this past Fall. I showed her around some of the places I used to hang out at, where I studied, and where I did some of my best work as a student. Somewhere along the way in my dream, I'm being told that I like newspapers and food. That is true in my life to this day.

Two dreams about California

On Tuesday morning, I had a dream that I was watching the Holiday Bowl from San Diego's Petco Park. Later on in that dream, I was hovering over Downtown San Diego listening to Sean McDonough call play-by-play of the game between two undetermined teams. Moments later, I was hovering over the streets of Downtown San Diego in an industrial part of town where hundreds of cars were all moving in perfect harmony in and out of various parking garages and freeway on-ramps and off-ramps. In reality, I wake up and find that The Holiday Bowl as always been played at Qualcomm Stadium. There has never been a playing of that game at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres. In recent years, there have been a few bowl games that have been staged at baseball stadiums. There was the one playing of the Seattle Bowl at Safeco Field in 2001. The Insight Bowl was staged at Phoenix's Bank One Ballpark from 2002-2005. The New Era Pinstripe Bowl is at Yankee Stadium, and the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl is housed at San Francisco's AT&T Park. My Arizona State Sun Devils beat Navy in the Fight Hunger Bowl last weekend. This morning, I had a dream where I was back in Southern California's Imperial Valley. In the dream, the city of El Centro looked like a bustling metropolis complete with not one, but two East-West freeways. There's the longstanding Interstate 8 and another not named freeway north of Interstate 8. The Imperial Valley just East of San Diego looked like Eastern San Diego County with multiple exits within a mile of each other and restaurants like Denny's on the side of the freeway. Too bad in my dream I did not see a Cracker Barrel off the road. I saw exit signs for U.S. Highway routes like U.S. 19 and U.S. 41 and thought about how they connected from California to the Midwest. In reality, California's Imperial Valley looks nothing like a busy metropolitan area. El Centro, California is a nice go-between from Yuma to San Diego. There was a Denny's off Imperial Avenue and I-8. There are no U.S. Highways in the Imperial Valley. There is only one freeway in the Imperial Valley, and that freeway is Interstate 8. I have driven on Interstate 8 many times when I lived in Arizona and for a few times since I moved to Georgia in 2000. One day, I hope to visit San Diego and Los Angeles again and go on vacation with my wife. I want to show her Petco Park for a Padres game, the Ghirardelli Ice Cream shop for another chocolate-caramel ice cream, and take her to the beach again.
